Bulgaria Yambol 8th March 2014: Masquerade Kukerlandia groups from across Europe and Bulgaria in the annual festival. Performers from Romania, Portugal, Turkey, Greece and Indonesia a total of 45 teams took part in the week long festival ending with a parade around the town and performances to the awaiting crowd. Kukeri celebrations is to scare away evil spirits, banished the cold and diseases an important masked ritual that wishes health and prosperity. Masquerade rituals can be seen all over Bulgaria to this day. Interest in masquerade rituals in Bulgaria is undergoing a boom. Perhaps the inspiration has come from the largest festival of this kind held in the town of Yambol. Performers from Romania, Portugal, Turkey, Greece and exotic Indonesia will take part in the festival.
