Today Sendai is the capital city in Miyagi Prefecture in Japan and the biggest city in Tohoku Region. On 11 March 2011, a earthquake and a subsequent major tsunami hit Sendai, causing major damage to the city, especially on the coastal area including Sendai Airport and Port.
