To test the value ofthis practice rate-of-detonation tests were made with an explosiveof class 1, subclass «°, put up in cartridges 1^ inches in diameter, with and without No. 7 electric detonators distributed in the ex-plosive, in order to determine whether the presence of the detona-tors within the charge would increase the distance through whichdetonation of the charge was effected. The explosive used was sub-sequently tested in cartridges that were 1| inches in diameter, with ° Part of classification by Bureau of Mines. It signifies an ammonium nitrate explo-sive containing a sensitizer that is itself an explosive. BUREAU OF MINES BULLETIN 80 PLATE X. A. RESULTS OF NAIL TESTS OF P. T. S. S.
