He receiveda good common-school education in his neighbor-hood, and after-wards obtained acollegiate coursein a Virginia in-stitution; studiedlaw, and gradu-ated at the LawUniversity o fIowa City, Iowa;obtained licenseto practice, andopened an officein Pikeville,Ky.,and rose to prom-inence. He isnow the county prosecutor, although the county ispolitically largely against him. He is a goodwriter, and bids fair to take a high rank as an ed-itor and lawyer. He is unmarried. ELLIOTT Was so well known to the Sandy people, that theyhave his eventful life indelibly pictured both in theirmemory and on their hearts. He, too, like somany others, added luster to the bar of Preston-burg. The high position to which he attained,the many official stations he adorned, and the tragicmanner of his death, will always keep his nameembalmed in the memory of Sandy people. It is asmall consolation to his widow and to his friends,now the mists have been swept away by time andcircumstances, to believe that his slayer was acrank, scarcely responsible for taking the life ofone of earths warm-hearted sons, and a jurist aspure as a Marshall or a Story.
