Eead the description of the introducers: "In presenting th's new currant, 'The Xorth Star,' as an applicant for favor, it is with a full sense of the responsibility that properly rests upon the introducer of all new fruits. We have spent five years in giving 'The^^orth Star' as vigorous a test as the extremes of climate, to be found in a scope of territory ranging from ISTew England to the Rocky mountains, would afford. It has fully met our most sanguine expecta- tions, and we conscientiously believe 'The North Star' to be the very best currant in existence. The ability for currants to bear fruit is measured by the length of the new fruiting wood annually produced. The average growth of the wood of 'The i^orth Star' is from three to four feet, frequently branched, and not given to heavy foliage. The average length of the bunches is four inches; the berries, from a single bunch, thirty in number, placed side by side, touching, covered a line twelve inches in length; the fruit is superior, very sweet and rich in quality, firm, a good market berry, desirable as a dessert fruit in the natural state, and unequaled for jelly.
