International Ice Patrol - Observation Plane. Seen here through the lifeboat lines of a ship is a Coast Guard Ice Patrol plane out of Argentia keeping track of a large iceberg meandering in the Grand Banks off Newfoundland. Ice observations of the International Ice Patrol are conducted primarily from Coast Guard planes which begin their work with a few pre-season flights between January and March to size up the ice conditions before the patrol goes into full operations.
