The side walls are five feet high and consist of two and one-half feet of wood and two and one-half feet of glass. Each end contains two and one-half feet of wood and the rest is flass. The height to the ridge is eleven eet. There are three benches, each four feet eight inches wide. I have an upright sectional boiler, four feet eight inches high, with a 30-inch grate. This boiler now heats two houses, one of them 24x50 and the other 16x62. The new house is for carnations. Do you think the boiler can heat all three houses? If not, would it do to put on another section? In one of my houses there are ten 1^-inch pipes under each of the side benches, and, when the fire is on, the soil in those benches is baked all the time. If the pipes can be so arranged in the new house that there will not be many under the benches, I shall be thankful. The center beds are solid. M. C. M. The letter does not give the amount of glass in the side walls of the present houses, or the temperature at which they are kept, and as this might make a difference of 50 to 7') per cent in the amount of radiation needed, I cannot be sure about the ability of the boiler to handle it, especially as the only idea regarding the rating of the boiler must be taken from its grate area. A boiler with a grate thirty inches in diameter is generally rated at 1,500 square feet of radiation and upwards, and as the amount of radiation in the three houses is likely to be consid- erably less than this, the present boiler -will probably be able to heat the three houses. In case the rating of the boiler as given by the manufacturers is not more than 1,200 square feet, and. Please note that th
