General Nguyen Van Thieu, President of South Vietnam between 1965-1975. Born 1923 and lived until 2001. Originally a general in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, he became head of a military junta, which led to him becoming president after winning at election. Ruled over South Vietnam until his resignation a few days before the fall of Saigon. He fled the country at this time, forseeing the communist victory.
