IN the April issue of this journal aletter will be found addressed by to the Editor, under the head-ing Dr. Millers Litmus Test/ in whichthe question of the reliability of the lit-mus test in connection with studies on thesubject of wasting is called in Editor in replying confirms thedoubts expressed by Dr. Head, and em-phasizes the necessity of adopting othermeans to determine the acidity of thesaliva, and thus learn whether it may bethe fact in any given case that althoughthe saliva may turn red litmus paperblue, there may nevertheless be acid saltspresent which are chemically capable ofacting upon enamel detrimentally.
