Finsch Diamond Mine, South Africa. A team of miners prepares to drill into the rockface (right) in order to introduce explosives. Finsch Mine was originally an opencast mine, but production now comes from underground mining beneath the original pit. It exploits an area of kimberlite, which an igneous rock sometimes found to contain diamonds.
