THE new gerbera hybrids to which we have called our readers' attention several times, were again greatly ad- mired at the June horticultural ex- hibition in Paris, being shown in a beautiful variety of colors. Rose Otto von Bismarck, seedling of Caroline Testout and La Prance, is announced in Germany as an improve- ment on both, having the fragrance and color of La France without the tendency to become bluish. THE common snowball, pruned back successively during the summer to four eyes per branch, can be forced as readily as a lilac blooming easily by March 15. Le Jardin shows a speci- men with a mass of 86 blooms. THE city of Ghent proposes to allow florists certain space in the parks which they may plant, at their own expense, and under park supervision, and on which they may put their ad- vertisements. The beds are cared for by the park. Among the 50 new cactus dahlias studied last summer at Remilly the following varieties seem to have given the best results: Among the white or slightly striped sorts, Duchesse de la Rochefoucauld, a white variety of great merit; Diavolo, a beautiful flower, but a little later and less free of bloom. Among the other best new sorts are M. Auguste Choulet, Aus- tralian, Mrs. G. Caselton, Golden Pheasant, Acrobat, Winter Kind and Flinder.
