In 1230 Hugh de la Dene was of Shutford (Swalcliffe)and Stoke Marmion. The Hugh de la Dene of Cestersham,of the same date, was, we must suppose, the same sister Emma married Richard de Siffrewast. His sonwas William de la Dene, who was succeeded by his son SirWalter de la Dene. In 1269 Sir Thomas de Appleby held one fee in Chearsleyof land formerly belonging to Sir Walter de Dene. Here isprobably the origin of the Deanes of Appleby. In 1280 Sir John de la Dene holds land in the vill ofBritwell Solium. He is also witness to a deed.
