Trestling is a system of vertical posts, and of capsand braces, used both for temporary and for permanentw^orks; temporarily to pass a road over low ground whereembankments are to be made, and permanently over deep,dry gorges, where the amount of earthwork or masonrywould be too great. American railroadsshow all sizes andarrangements of trest-ling, from twenty totwo hundred feet 83 and 84 showtemporary works, andfig. 85 permanent.
