Imitation Splashware Dish, 10th century, Attributed to Iran, Nishapur. Excavated in Iran, Nishapur, Earthenware; white slip, incised and splashed with polychrome glazes under a transparent glaze (sgraffito ware), Diam. at rim 13 9/16 in. ( cm), Ceramics, This dish’s decoration of concentric bands and gridded central roundel are typical of Nishapur splashware, and several other examples like this one were found during the excavations. Unusual, however, is the purplish-black glaze, which has disintegrated in some areas, leaving blank spots on the surface of the dish
