Vegetation sensor on SPOT 4 satellite. Cutaway artwork showing a close-up of the sensor on the SPOT 4 earth observation satellite that is designed to monitor vegetation levels. This allows studies of changes in crop yields and forests, as well as variations due to climate changes. The vegetation sensor has a much wider (2250 kilometres) angle of view than the main SPOT sensors. SPOT 4, launched by the European Space Agency in 1998, is part of the SPOT (Satellite Pour l'Observation de la Terre) family of satellites. The SPOT satellites are operated by a company created by the French space agency (CNES).
