Some minutes elapsed, and then the table gave a few heaves at eitherend. It finally levitated a few inches fromthe floor, and, after remaining in the air someseconds, dropped. Some minutes passed beforethe levitation was again successful, and therewas a lot of preliminary jerking before it wasaccomplished, and, as on the previous occa-sion, it only lasted for the briefest of during each of these evidently difficultlevitations there was no pressure on thebalance beneath the table, for the pointer re-mained stationary in its zero position. Thus. Fig. 11. 110 REALITY OF PSYCHIC PHENOMENA the operators had accomplished what was re-quired of them, but apparently only after muchtrouble. In thinking over this result it occurred tome that the operators were making use of thatpart of the surface underneath the table out-side a circle projected upwards from the panof the balance, and that this was not theirnormal method of levitation. On inquiring ifthis was the case, they replied by raps in theaffirmative.
