He was also President of the Academyof Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, Director of the Department ofBiology in the University, and a Foreign Member of the GeologicalSociety of London. His more important contributions to scientificliterature were, The Extinct Mammalian Fauna of Dakota andNebraska, and Freshwater Ehizopods of North America.
