A well-preserved windmill, a landmark of Cyclades, overlooking the sunset from Hora village in Ios island, Cyclades, Greece

These old traditional windmills are located on the hill over Chora (Hora) village in Ios island, Cyclades, Aegean Sea, Greece. One of the main landmarks of Cyclades and Aegean islands, windmills played for many years an important role in Greek economy as just using the strong sea winds they ground wheat, barley and corn to provide the self-sufficient local societies with flour. This traditional way of using clean energy, the Aeolian(wind) energy, is nowadays a perfect example of an old but nevertheless sustainable model of production, a useful tool to raise people's environmental awareness
