THE AMERICAN HOMEOPATHIST. 75 OUR E. Jeanette Gooding, M,Boston, Mass.(B. U. S. M., 1877.) I). GEOGRAPHY OF HEART DISEASE. ACCORDING to Dr. E. M. Hale, inan interesting paper recently read byhim on this subject, heart disease is moreprevalent in New Jersey than in any otherState in the Union. It kills more peoplethere, in proportion to the population, thanin any other State. Next to New Jerseycomes New York in its rate of mortality fromheart disease. In the States north of Masonand Dixons line the mortality from heartdisease far exceeds that in the South. explains this fact by the difference inthe weight of the atmosphere. In NewJersey the air is damp and heavy, and inthe other States enumerated the same con-dition prevails. That this is a general law,the doctor said is proved by the fact that inWest Virginia, in the cold and dampatmosphere of the mountains, heart dis-ease is far more prevalent than in old Vir-ginia, where the climate is more even.
