In organ-izing the work a large party of scouts was sent to Maine for the pur-pose of determining whether the infestation had spread beyond thisline. The results of the examination show that a large number oftowns are infested outside the border previously established. Thework was continued until late in December, when it was necessary totransfer the men on account of deep snow and extremely cold weather,the temperature for a number of days being as low as 20° to 25Qbelow zero.
