J. Booth enlisted in what was locally known asLord Derbys Lancashire Artillery in February, 1915(after having seen service in South Africa during theBoer War). He went to France, where he was woundedand sent home, being subsequently discharged as medi-cally unfit with the rank of Corporal. However, later on,when we were being hard pressed, he rejoined the Army,getting into the 20th Cheshire Regiment, and againwent to France, only to be discharged a second time,in June, 1917, unfit as a result of shell-shock.
