A very rare Austrian Gothic Ahlspieß second half of the 15th century. Formed of a tapering long spike of robust square section, stamped on each side at the base with the Vienna arsenal mark, the mark repeated on two sides, fitted with iron disc-guard, almost certainly the original, its surfaces rough from the hammer (now a loose fit), and with characteristic long tubular socket open over the greater part of the sides: on later wooden haft.
