ELECTRODES There is a definite relationship between the size of elec-trodes and the proper amount of current to be used. Weldingcurrent ranges from 70 to 160 amperes and electrode sizesfrom J/8 in. to 5/16 in. It is also of importance that theelectrcxles be of the best qualit>-. The electrodes should be 158 RAILWAY MECHANICAL EXGINEER Vol. 91, No. 3 clean and bright and of uniform size and composi-tion, and for general work the carbon content should be welds are sure to result from the use of impropermaterials. The best electrodes are those made of eitherNorway or Swedish welding iron, or certain Ijnuids of sim-ilar composition manufactured in this country. A littlemanganese in the welding material does no harm, but thepresence of phosphorus or sulphur has the same Ijad effectas in other iron and steel products. USE OF FL
