Grumman F7F Tigercat in flight during the Reno National Championship Air Races. There were 364 of the twin engined fighters built during World War II, and shortly thereafter, of which there are six that are still considered airworthy. Originally Grumman had been contracted to build 500 of the aircraft for use by the US Marine Corps to be used as close air support of the landing operations that were planned in the Pacific.
