Midge genetics research. Entomologist studying the genetics of the Culicoides midge. This is part of work to produce a landmark physical map of the Culicoides genome. This will show the chromosomal location of genes controlling the midge's role as a vector for the bluetongue virus. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture.
