An Ottoman khanjar, 2nd half of the 18th century. Heavy, double-edged, slightly curved wootz Damascus blade with narrow fullers on both sides. Richly decorated with gold inlay (worn in places) at the base of the blade. Heavy walrus ivory grip. Fire-gilded, silver scabbard, the chape button is worked in the shape of a palmette. Carrying ring on one side, next to zigzag pattern line and stamped thugra mark.
