Fox and Hodges were recognized as two of the last remaining survivors who fought in the Battle of Midway. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the battle, which was a turning point of World War II’s Pacific War. The Fish and Wildlife Service partnered with the Navy, Marine Corps, Texas Children’s Choir, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, American Battle Monuments Commission, and the Friends of Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge to make the ceremony possible.
