city of avdat (oboda) nabatean city founded 3rd cent BCE
ancient nabatean city named after god king oboda .it was a station on the incense route from the arabian peninsula to gaza via petra. it became pert of the roman empire . nabateans learned to collect rainfall and surface runoff into protected cisterns using it for agriculture thus ensuring their control of the desert .
