A patient with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHMD) undergoes stress tests for muscle strength and endurance. FSHMD is a usually inherited form of muscular dystrophy which causes progressive weakening and wasting of the skeletal muscles, initially of the face, shoulders and upper arms. There is no cure but the disease generally progresses slowly, with most patients having a normal lifespan. Therapies are aimed at managing symptoms. Photographed at Lapeyronie Hospital, Montpellier, France.
