Im Osten des Landkreises Tirschenreuth liegt eine einzigartiges Teichgebiet, die Tirschenreuther Teichpfanne. Wie an einer Perlenschnur aufgereiht liegen ca. Teiche nebeneinander. Den Untergrund für diese Teichlandschaft bildet das Kaolin, welches auch zur Porzellanherstellung verwendet wird. Die Teichpfanne ist Teil eines geologischen Grabenbruchs, ohne den es diese amphibische Naturlandschaft nicht gäbe.
