Conceptual illustration comparing the comet nucleus size of comet C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein, far right) to comets P/2005 JQ5, 1P/Halley, C/2011 KP36, C/Hale-Bopp and C/2002 VQ94. Comet C/2014 UN271 is currently the largest comet nucleus to be witnessed by astronomers. It has a diameter of kilometres, or 85 miles, wide and an estimated mass of 500 trillion tons. Most comet nuclei are smaller than Halley's comet.
