Global precipitation. Supercomputer simulation of global precipitation, produced using NASA's Goddard Earth Observing System-5 (GEOS-5), and shown on a cylindrical projection of the Earth's surface. The total water precipitation is shown in white. The rainfall is shown in coloured patches over land and sea, with swirling patterns caused by global winds and the jet streams. The scale ranges from 0 to 15 millimetres per hour, with red being the highest. This visual is part of the simulation 'Nature Run' (2005-7), produced with the Discover supercomputer at the NASA Center for Climate Simulation. Image published in 2013.
