The White-winged Pratincole is the only species of the genus which has ic/iiie axillaries, a character common to old and young. It is only known from West Africa, where it is a resident in the Fantee Country (Sharpe, Ibis, 1870, p. 487), the valley of the Niger (Forbes, Ibis, 1883, p. 129), the valley of the Ogowai (Bocage, Orn. d'Angola, p. 422), and the Loango coast (Falkenstein, Journ.
