Researchers at the Midwest Cancer Nanotechnology Training Center (M-CNTC) have developed a blood clot-mimicking patch capable of delivering therapeutic drugs to an implantation site in a controllable manner. The patch, composed of drug-releasing microparticles bound to directionally aligned microfibers, was formed by a unique electrospinning/electrospray process. This image shows the 2 to 6 micron thick drug releasing microparticles attached to the directionally aligned 1 micron thick microfibers on the patch.
