1896 historic engraving - Dr Robert Langton (left) , Queen's College,Oxford and another figure, both wearing a COPE, a liturgical vestment in the form of a long mantle or cloak, open in front and fastened at the chest with a band or clasp. Originally, a hood was attached to the neck, later replaced by a shield-shaped piece of material, restored in the 20th century. It is used by Roman Catholic and some Anglican clergy at non-eucharistic functions.
