On Feb-ruary 6, 1740, he married Ruth Peck, a daugh-ter of Jeremiah Peck of Waterbury. The father of Rev. Mark Leavenworth wasDr. Thomas Leavenworth, who in 1699 mar-ried Mary Jenkins, daughter of David Jenkinsand settled at Stratford. Connecticut. Hisfather, Edmund Leavenworth, emigrated fromGermany to America and settled at Hunting-ton, then a part of Waterbury, prior to 1680. After completingthe common school course, he attended theUniversity of Michigan and upon his returnbegan to learn the lumber business. He beganat the bottom of the ladder and worked his wayup through the various positions until he be-came secretary of the company whose employhe had entered in the humblest position. In1895 lis became president of the Kern Manu-facturing Company and filled that position until1898 when he entered the employ of the Michi-gan Sugar Company. He continued with thiscompany until its combination with the Bay CitySugar Company, at which time he accepted hispresent responsible place as secretary of theGerman-American Sugar Company. This company was incorporated February18, 1901, with
