Passing out through the great sacro sciatic foramen it receives an origin fromthe upper margin of the great sciatic notch of the ilium and from the pelvic surface of thegreat sacro sciatic ligament, forming in the buttocks a round tendon which is inserted intoa facet on the upper border and inner aspect of the great trochanter of the femur partlysurrounding the insertion of the obturator internus.
