The Commissioner, Major Pollock, with the Brigadier, Major-General Stewart, and Captain Waterfield, Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by a squadron of cavalry, also rode a few miles within the pass to meet the Ameer is mounted on a fine Turkistan he is attended by crowds of his own irregular cavalry. The costume of his followers has a barbaric aspect; their head-dresses consist of sheepskin or lambskin caps, ana the long-haired ones give them a very wild appearance.
