The second hundred yards in ad-. vance, was established July23d, by a flying-sap along thenarrow strip of shifting moon was so bright untilmidnight that, no work couldbe done, but from twelve tilldawn a parapet ten feet thickand one hundred seventy-livefeet long was completed, sixhowitzers were placed, an en-tanglement was put up a hun-dred yards in advance, and alarge bomb-proof magazinefinished in the center of an oldgraveyard.
