The Aspinwall Potato Planter WITH FERTILIZER ATTACHMENT Our New Aspinwall Potato Planter with Fertilizer Attachment embraces more substantial improvements and desirable features than the most sanguine mind could anticipate. Instead of depositing the fertilizer from the rear of the machine, partially mixing it with the earth as the furrow is being closed, we have transposed the location to the front and arranged the plow to open a deep furrow, where the fertilizer is deposited, mixed and covered with the earth, thus putting it underneath and in advance of the seed-dropping. The potato chute has an adjustable shoe which prevents the earth from filling the furrow and covering the fertilizer more than two inches, or thereabouts, as desired. The potato as dropped is covered, and on each side and underneath the earth is entirely loose, so that no packing, in a single instance, can possibly occur. The Improved Fertilizer Attachment is rotary, being worked by a single chain and a pair of sprocket wheels. The flow of fer- tilizing material is constantly in view of the driver and its capacity under perfect con- trol, from the smallest amount required to 2,000 lbs. per acre. Like the plain planter, all the parts are thrown in and out of gear automatically. Summed up in a few words, the superior features of our Fertilizer Planter are : the quality of being automatic, the opening of a loose furrow by means of an anti-packing plow, the depositing of Fertilizer under the seed ; the ability to raise the coverers, either runner or disk, as may be desired by foot-lever, and the easy adjustment to any width or depth.
