John Heppell MP. Member of Parliament for Nottingham East. John Heppell, was returned to Parliament on 5th May 2005, with a majority of 6,939 (23%). John Heppell was born 03/11/48 in Newcastle and educated at Rutherford Grammar School & Ashington Technical College. He is married to Councillor Eileen Heppell and they have three children, two grandchildren, two dogs (named Oscar and Ginger) and a cat (named Gertie). Before being elected to Parliament, John worked as a fitter for the National Coal Board and as fitter and workshop supervisor at British Rail, among other jobs. John served on Nottinghamshire County Council from 1981 to 1993 and was Deputy Leader from 1989 to 1992. John Heppell is now a senior Government Whip (Vice Chamberlain of her Majesty's Household), having already served four years in the Whips' Office. Before this post he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to John Prescott, Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport & the Regions.
