But to secure such a combi-nation the artist must climb,perhaps two or three inclinesbefore he can find a properstandpoint. And yet there are exceptions to all rules. Thereare occasions where it is bestto remain lowly, but only whenthe best picture can be so ob-tained. Such an instance isexhibited by Mr. Albert Bier-stadts magnificent painting of•Mountain Lake.
