However, it is also used in herbal medicine to treat kidney complaints, heart problems, rheumatism, paralysis and shingles. Excessive doses has caused gastro-enteritis and even death. Its unusual common name derives from the ripe fruit squirting a stream of mucilaginous liquid containing its seeds as a means of seed dispersal, an example of rapid plant movement.[
