Theoperating table is shown op«n, with a subject seated upon a stool readyto be tluoroscoped. This stool has a revolving seat, which can be loweredor raised as required. A lateral movement is imparted to the screen andtube by taking hold of the screen holder and causing the whole frame toslide on its tracks: a vertical movement by turning the pilot wheel to theright or left. Reaching overhead, the lights in the room are controlledby appropriate switches, reaching back, the current passing through thetube is controlled by a suitable switchboard table. All of this is done bythe operator from one stand, with the greatest ease and convenience, ina minimrm of time ami without having to reach to the side or beyondthe PLATE II. XOR^IAL JOINTS. Appreciating the immense advantage of always having handyfor comparison a set of normal skiagraphs when studying ab-normal ones, especially those of the different joints, we have pre-pared this chapter, trusting that it will prove of real help to thereader. In it are only described the normal adult joints. There areseveral atlases of normal skiagraphy, which give skiagrams ofnormal joints and bones from childhood to adult life. The period at Avhich ossification takes place, and hence theshadows depending upon same, vary so much, even in childrenof the same age, that we have found it best and most practicalwhenever in doubt when examining skiagraphs in which thepathological changes were not well marked to compare the doubt-ful negative with one made from the corresponding healthy partof the same patient. For obvious reasons we have inserted this chapter in this partof the work, before those
