Lfpon leaving school, he enteredthe office of the McKay SewingMachine Association as an office his 25 years with this con-cern he worked his way up to theposition of paymaster. The plantwas located in the. building on Haver-hill street, now occupied by theWalton Shoe Company. When itwas absorbed by the United ShoeMachinery Company, Mr. Murphywas transferred, as assistant manager,to the Haverhill branch office of thelatter concern, where he remainedfor three years, until he was trans-ferred to the Boston office.
