Monument on top of Dane John Mound, Canterbury, Kent, UK
Dane John Mound is a Roman burial mound that was converted into a Motte and Bailey castle in the 11th century. The Norman word "donjon" means fortification. In 1123, Canterbury Castle was built to the North of the mound, The monument commemorates Simmon´s public spiritedness in giving the gardens to the city and was designed by Henry Weekes RA, a Canterbury born sculptor.
