Sheerness, Kent, UK. 12th May, 2019. National Mills Weekend is the annual festival celebrating the UK's milling heritage. Pictured is Watson's Mill (formerly the Great Mill) in Sheerness which lies close to the town centre. Since 1924 the mill stood in ruin after being demolished, until being rebuilt by Caleb Watson in 2006, with fire almost destroying the rebuild in 2008 before it was due to be finished. It's a prominent local landmark but not open to the public; the ground floor has been taken over by a local insurance company. It's a Grade II smock mill. Credit: James Bell/Alamy Live News


Work on building the Great Mill was started by the millwright Humphrey of Cranbrook in 1813.
