Senator Edward Ted Kennedy, 1976.

Image from original 6x6 cm camera negative. Portrait photo by Charles Sinks. Charles Sinks happened to notice the Senator while crossing the street in Washington, DC. The photographer spun around in his wheel chair and yelled: "Mr Kennedy, Wait." Kennedy stopped abruptly; the photographer gave his sales pitch; and Kennedy agreed to a sitting later in the week, after noticing Sinks' portrait of Senator George McGovern, which Kennedy seemed to admire. Sinks, who photographed in the style of his role model, Karsh, indicated that he wanted to capture the same essence for Ted that Karsh achieved in his photograph of Kennedy's older brother, JFK. The year of the image is 1976, the month and day are unknown.
