15-inch telescope at Dunecht Observatory, Scotland. This telescope is of the refractor design, and was made by the Grubb telescope company, founded in the 19th century. The Dunecht Observatory, in Aberdeenshire, was founded in 1871 by the Scottish astronomer James Ludovic Lindsay (1847-1913), the 26th Earl of Crawford. Lord Lindsay appointed David Gill (1843-1914) as the first director of the observatory. The observatory's instruments were donated to the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh in 1888. For this instrument installed and in use in Edinburgh, see image C025/0118.
