The River Witham passing St Botolph's Church in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. The existing church was begun in 1309, and is noted for its extraordinarily tall tower, known as the "Boston Stump", begun in 1450, and completed between 1510 and 1520 in the perpendicular style. The tower was used as a marker for travellers on The Fens and in The Wash, and it is commonly believed that it was once lit from inside the tower in order to serve this purpose at night as well as during the day.
